I got one 30 mins ago. same story, luckily I work for a security company that deals with this type of fraud and other malicious social engineering tactics.
I hope someone comes to my door to try and deliver some papers I will have a surprise for them and I don't think they will actually hand me the "papers" after that.

Just today I received  call today, they knew my name, address, cell number and told me that HSBC had filed a complaint against me, for $1600. I had no clue what they are talking about. I told the guy that, and he said that in 2007 I opened up an account with them and they are the ones taking action.  I then told them I never heard tell of a credit card company signing a restraining order against anyone before. The nasty pos then started saying that now that they spoke to me I will be served the papers  in a few days. ????  I told them I have no clue wth he is talking about and that if I owed someone where are the papers from the company ?? Then I asked where is there a contact number for me to call, because I want to call the company to check this out, and he wouldn't give me anything ...   They seemed real, official.. I just don't remember opening this credit card.

And you probably didn't! If you read through lots of the threads here, there are lots of variations on the fraud/scam.  Bullying tactics, insistent your going to jail etc..

Credit Card outfits do not issue restraining orders at all!  The over sea's/foreign callers don't have much of a clue about our laws or the terms or when its appropriate or not.. thats the first clue the call is a scam to get your info and you will hopefully fall for their line and send them money!

You should however, report this to the FBI, state attorney general of your state, the FTC & FCC.  You should also read up on the FTC & FCC's sites about your rights concerning debt collectors.

The other thing too, is that when I asked what department I could speak to about this he said, there isn't any and that because I answered the call now they know I'm living here and that I will be served with the complaint.  No other options offered.  Again I asked to speak to someone else , because this just didn't seem right he kept saying that there's nothing I can do .  I also did check to see if there is a pending civil suit and there is nothing.  Only thing that came up was from 2003 where my purse was stolen and credit cards and all but one of my banks wouldn't work with us .  It was later dismissed because it was proven that identity theft happened.  But apparently this will stay on file for 10 years if people should go on an look.

I get them a few times a week on my cell phone while I'm at work.  They are for someone else that I am acquainted with.  I block them, them they call in as unavailable.  They are spewing the restraining order garbage.  They think there is a world of suckers out there, but if you didn't know better that could scare some people into giving them money.

I'm going to file a complaint with the Attorney General in New Jersey.  They are true scumbags and need to be stopped.  While I understand people need jobs, the people that work there need their heads examined.
