I received a nearly identical call yesterday afternoon... only my voicemail was from "Sue Murphy" from a number in New York (800 miles away) and she was a "private process server." She claimed that she had been "routed" to come serve me with a summons at my place of employment - she provided the name of my employer. She did also suggest that I call this "attorney" Michael Thompson (same number as yours in South Carolina best I can tell) so she could serve me somewhere other than my place of employment.   Instead, I called MY attorney.  He told me to do nothing that this was an intimidation tactic used by some lowlife debt collectors - often without any ability to validate the debt. So, I've done nothing and I now wait to see if she (or anyone) shows up today between 10-12 as she claimed they would.  I'd be interested in knowing how your situation turns out.

I would never recommend anyone give these people the personal and financial information necessary to process a payment simply to give the bank a method of tracking where these people are at.   You're opening yourself up to far more trouble than just illegal scare tactic collection calls. Not a good idea by any means.

I just had the same call stating that they were going to serve papers to my place of employment however I have not worked there in over 3 years. I called the number back just to feed my curious mind and spoke to a woman who stated the "Michael Thompson" who is an attorney is in a meeting and will call me back. Well then.... Still have no idea who these people are or why they are calling as the woman on the phone told me specifically that she could not access my account. Hmmmmm.... So now I am waiting for this so called attorney to call me back. Also this call was placed from a restricted number... When I asked if they were going to call me back from another restricted number the woman said that she wasn't sure why it came up Restricted... Right sure ya didn't. Now I am here and see that others are receiving the same calls with the same message. Can't wait to receive the next phone call to see what they have to say... I probably wont call them back this time... Very entertaining...

I wouldn't bother calling them back.   Do your own investigating.   Check with your circuit courts and see if you have anything filed against you.  They can't serve you if nothing is filed.   Generally speaking, you have to be sued in the county you reside in.  So start there.  Check your credit report.  Rarely will a debt go as far as the court system without something hitting your credit report.   You can also call your state attorney generals office and explain what is going on.   They can give you some advice and let you know if others have filed complaints about these people.  Just some food for thought, from what I can tell from the stories posted here and on one other site,  these people are using the same script with everyone they call.   They only have your place of employment, they need you to call and give them your home address so the process server can meet you there instead.  What legitimate attorney can't find ANY of our home addresses??  Not to mention,  process servers don't care where they serve you.  Work, home, it doesn't matter to them.  They're paid to serve you.  And lastly, debts are civil cases, not criminal.   They don't issue warrants and you can't be arrested.   I get these calls on a regular basis since I had my identity stolen four years ago.   I've never called a single one back and no one has ever shown up to serve me with anything.

Yes, an investigator by the name James Stone called my phone private looking for my mother. In concern of some hot checks & before they commit to the charges, they would like to talk with her. If he did his homework he would have known I am a paralegal. Her number should be on those so called hot checks why call me.
