I responded to a CL ad where a company places the sticker advertisements on your car and they pay you $$$ for "mobile advertising" for them. The opening sounded the same; full name, address, car, year/make/model, and that the check would be in the mail, plus extra for the technician to come apply the sticker.
After the initial correspondence the phone number of the company contact changed to 214-997-8740. All they seemed to be concerned about was the money; if I had received the check, I was given a tracking number for the USPS, and texts every day asking if I had received it.
The check came in the mail today with a slip of paper with yet a third phone number on it to text immediately for instructions on how to get the check deposited. The company name on the check is the American College of Chest Physicians, 2595 Patriot BLVD Glenview, IL 60026. The bank is North Shore Community Bank and Trust. It looks like a legit enough check, and both bank and physician locations Google correctly, but neither have anything to do with the original company soliciting the advertising on the vehicle...

This is known as the overpayment check scam. You get a check, and are asked to use a cash wire transfer service to send money to their shipper/technician/whoever. Yes, the check looks good, but it isn't. It will appear to clear your bank in 2-3 days. In 4-5 weeks it'll bounce. Usually the name of the bank is good, but the transit numbers at the bottom are fake. Take everything to your bank -DO NOT deposit the check - give it to them for investigation. Whoever sent you the check, keep stalling them.

Just got a variation on this - they say they are deaf, that's why they can't call to talk to you. I became suspicious when they offered more than I was asking. So at least I didn't go any further.

Really doubt they are interested in a tanning booth!

That's funny. I got the same message at midnight. Thought it was suspicious that they would want to drive an hour after a 16hr shift.
