You would be wise to be that "someone" to address this. Inform your granddaughter of the dangers of answering calls from unknown numbers. The sooner she learns, the better off she'll be.

There isn't really anyone here who can address it for you. We're all potential victims of scams, who come here to report on calls we've gotten, to help others stay out of trouble.

A woman's voice with a thick accent called. She said she was from "The United States Government Grant Foundation" and I was to receive an award of $9,000, but she needed information from me. As Tiffany described above, the person had a thick accent and there was a very noisy office background. I told The caller I truthfully could not understand her. sshe then began again, repeating exactly word-for-word what she had previously said. I politely said I was concerned she was a "scam," and not from a government agency. I asked for a number where I could call her back to confirm. She then mechanically replied "This is a computer-generated call" and hung up. :-)
Isn't it a very serious federal offense to masquerade as a federal agent in order to commit fraud?

You do know its a scam, right?

The scammer will ask for your banking information so he can put the money in your account.  But he won't put any money in your account.  He will take all of the money out of your account, then vanish.  You'll never get any of it back.

Congratulations on not falling for it.  And thanks for sharing. You may have helped keep his next victim from being scammed.
