Anthem Blue Cross. They are my insurance provider, so it wasn't (totally) spam; they were calling to remind me to schedule a checkup with my doctor and to let me know they were going to be sending me a letter with more information about what kinds of checkups they cover.  If you've got an outstanding insurance claim, you might want to answer; if you don't, you can probably let it go to voicemail.

What is troubling is this is an insurance company, not your doctor's office.  Should we allow insurance companies to tell us what to do with our lives?  Think about it.

I received the same message on my voice mail.  While I would expect this kind of message from my doctor's office, I absolutely do not want to receive this kind of reminder from an insurance company who merely pays for my claims, and should never call to tell me what I should be doing or when.  I am the client, and it's not in their jurisdiction to provide this level of invasive intrusion on my private decisions in my life.

Called my cell phone. I do not answer calls from unknown callers.

I answered the call. It asked me to say "Yes" that I was the person it was trying to call. Then it asked me to call (855) 863-0908 to get an "important" message. When I called, it said I would be receiving stuff in the mail about recommended checkups. It also gave another number to call to get off the automated call list: (877) 815-3706.

Very friendly of them - and annoying and a waste of time.

Before I called, I called the information number for plan subscribers on the Anthem BC of California website. The customer service rep verified that they had received my last payment while he tried to look up the 855-863-0908 number I had been asked to call. He couldn't find it but said it still could have come from Anthem BC as they have many, many numbers and it just may not be showing in the directory he is looking in. (He also said I could ignore it, as everything was fine with my account.)

Anthem Blue Cross: That's as far as the ROBOT got, before I hanged up.  It called again, about 12 hours later.  It was probably going to keep doing it forever, until I sat through its monotonous drone to the finish.  Added it to my black list.

If they had anything important to say, they'd send me an email, or paper letter.  Ringing my phone with a robot is just telling me how much you hate having me as a customer.
