When I read all of the posts on this board, I am surprised at what people think the DNC Registry is supposed to do. Most have never read about it on the DNC site. Some actually believe that it mechanically blocks calls, some believe that any unwanted call is a telemarketer and the DNC should block it, and many believe that it is a gigantic government branch set up to monitor, block, and track down all unwanted callers. They only track down Legitimate businesses who violate it because they can be easily found and fined. Scammers and crooks takes a lot of resourses and man/woman power to chase down and would be an impossible task.
It's is just a list of people who register to say that they don't want Telemarketing (Telephone sales) calls.
This list is required to be purchased at frequent intervals by those Legitimate companies who use Telephone Sales in their business.
There is no immunity given to stop any or all calls that one doesn't wish to receive. The registry only lists numbers, and the honest businesses will honor it. The dishonest will not. Like a street stop sign. The lawful will obey. Scammers, frauds, crooks, thiefs, Politicians (Actually politicians fall into the first 4 categories) surveys, charities, and some other categories are exempt. I don't think there should be that many exceptions but there is. The DNC does not do all that everyone expects it to do.
It does deter the millions and millions of legitimate businesses from ringing our phones to sell all of their products. Look at all of the complaints posted on this board, from all numbers, and see how many are from legitimate American Businesses. This represents the Telemarketing calls that we do NOT get. Once you look at its practical purpose and what it does, it works pretty good in keeping the honest.....honest
Anyone who is unhappy with it certainly has the right to opt out by contacting the DNC. Those who take the time to go to the site and read about it normally agree that it does help some.
