You prove the fact that this is a SCAM by your statement above, stating that in order for a recipient of this call to not be scammed "...you just have to know the right questions to ask."

My experience is being told I won a prize. Being told I had to subscribe to magazines in order to receive the prize and asking for credit card numbers by the SCAM caller to pay for magazines.

Your statement above tend to blame the victims of this SCAM by calling them "gullible".  Well, that is what a SCAMMER does. Takes advantage of other people. So, again by your statement above you have admitted to being a SCAMMER. Congratulations for being honest in that regard, however twisted your reasoning.

Actually it is against the law to have to pay (or purchase something) in order to receive a prize, loan, or grant!

Yes, you are correct. I paid for nothing. Having realized that the call was quite bogus, I merely played along for a while.
Of course, scammers do not care what the law says or what the intent of the law is.
