They called me too and I work for the courthouse,  it's a total scam, I have been getting calls like this since 2008.  This year my identity was even stolen, do not give these scammed any personal information and do not verify anything.  I used to report them but they are very hard to catch with all the spoofed numbers they use. Best just to block them and ignore the calls.  If you call them back, your number will most likely be passed on to other scammed and the calls will continue.

They called my parents and left a message saying there was a suit against me and I could call and settle it.  I think it is a scam!

My daughter received a call telling her they had a civil suit against me for a loan at a Cash Smart that I failed to repay--TOTAL FRAUD.  I called and talked to someone named "Liz" who was unable to give me any details.  She did however ask for the last 4 digits of my SS# "so she could verify who I was".

I talked to someone calling herself Liz. I had to ask HER who she represented.  She spelled out SIENBERG (let me know if you've heard of them) She informed me that I would be receiving info regarding a civil suit filed against me.  After pressing her for details she said I allegedly had failed to pay back a $500.00 loan to Cash Smart.  When I pressed for more details; i.e., when, where , etc. she informed me I would have to wait to hear from "the lawyers".  I plan to call back and ask just where they plan to mail these papers, since they "tracked" me through my daughter's CELL who has been married for 8 years and lives in another state.

Most likely a debt scammer.  If there were any law cases filed against you,  they would appear on the civil lists at your local courthouse.  You can check that yourself.   If there were someone intending to take your to court,  the attorney for the other side would have sent you letters and there would be a paper trail.  You'd know who you were dealing with.  You would not hear about a possible lawsuit by cold-call from some scammery-scummery debt collectors.

If they have a valid debt, then tell them to send you a debt validation letter by US Mail.  E-mail no good.  Of course, they won't do this,  so simply block their calls and ignore them.

It's most likely that there are no papers and there is no law case filed against you.  This is just a debt scamming operation.  Check with your local county courthouse.  See if anything has been filed against you.  But these scammers are not interested in going to court, they rely on threats.

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  DIME  until the debt is validated.

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
