A woman said she was calling for "Nami," something about a children's hospital.  I asked her if this was a local charity and she said it was. Upon checking my caller ID, I could see she was not calling from my area code.

PLEASE REMOVE MY PHONE NUMBER FROM YOUR DATA BASE!  THIS IS VERY ANNOYING SINCE I WORK 10 P.M. TIL 6 A.M. AND I AM TRYING TO SLEEP DURING THE DAY.  BEING A 911 DISPATCHER IS HARD ENOUGH WITHOUT PEOPLE CALLING DOZENS OF TIMES A DAY AND WAKING ME UP!  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER.

I saw an ad in the paper and got a job at Park Ave Thrift. They pay NAMI Memphis $3000 a month to use NAMI's good name to make money. It was not a good place to work for me and I do not recommend donating or working there to anyone until they change their operations.

Thanks for the info.  I received a call from NAMI tonite and it was a recording for clothing pickup donation.  I donated to them in December based on a live telephone conversation, but the recorded message gave a website if you were interested in donating.  This is not good business during a time when there are people desperately in need of clothing and monetary donations.

Hey,I did some checking and as it turns out the thrift store provides like 20% of NAMI-memphis's annual operating budget with a combination of the Thrift store and the phone calls. Also, the clothing pick up people work with a bunch of different charities in different states and their name used to be (wait for it) Merchandise COLLECTION service, hence the confusion with being a collection agency. The manager there told me they get mail that is marketed at collection agencies all the time and he finds it amusing. he also said that NAMI consumers (people that receive services from NAMI) come to the thrift store to get whatever they need clothing and household item wise at no cost. he wasn't sure why the 458-2010 number wasn't answering, but mentioned that they have had some technical issues with AT&T lately with some crossed wire and such and that he would look into it.  So, there ya go.
