the person wrote back and said his name is "Brian" and asked how I was doing today.

Strange, random text messages looking for Jen. Maybe this "Jen" person gave this "Brian" person a bad number because she found him annoying and now he's trying every number one digit off to try and find her? Meanwhile, making everyone he's texting find him annoying as well...
