This phone number came up on my caller ID as The Hartford. After I answered, they hung up the phone. What gives?

Same here. They hung up when I answered. Don't know where they got my number.

It's hartford insurance company.  This number is for a survey if you have dealt with an auto, home, etc.. insurance claim from the hartford.  

It's automated and you have to stay on for a few seconds before it starts.

I received a call w/o answering and looked up the number.  I have had dealings with The Hartford last week so a survey call might be what was up.

if you dial it back, they tell you it's for a survey because of your recent claim experience
