Scam artists. I'd been getting daily, almost hourly calls from these people - same recorded message, but different phone numbers.
What I figured out:
#1 If you don't recognize the number on your phone, DO NOT ANSWER. Answering lets them know it's an open line.
#2 Ignore the call as fast as you can. If it's a real person who actually knows you, they'll leave a message. If their calls are always ignored quickly, they'll slowly stop calling.
#3 Report each and every number that calls at DoNotCall.gov so that the FTC can build up a case to shut these people down.
#4 Your service provider will probably block a certain number of phone numbers for free. Sprint has 50.
