SOL refers to the length of time they have to sue you over a debt, not on whether you still owe it or whether they can attempt to collect it. That is the wrong thing to concentrate on, since everything in that person's post was done verbally. The proper way to deal with a debt collector is to always make them follow the letter of the law, starting with the first dunning letter sent by US mail, and then by making them not only prove that you owe the debt, but that they have the legal right to collect. This is all set out in a plain language Federal law. Also, one other thing, how do you know that person is in Texas? He said the debt collector was in Houston, he didn't say that he was, therefore the SOL might be different in his state.
