NOTE: The IRS has had to repeat every few months when this scam comes back around - they NEVER contact you by telephone during any sort of initial inquiry. I know because I owed them from an inadvertent mistake filing my late parent's final return. IRS always contacts by US Post first, and I sat waiting on hold for two hours to get through to an agent later. The scammers take advantage of fear, guilt over folks fudging penny ante stuff, and many don't stop to consider the tedious, slow processes government agencies must abide by before any legal actions would or could be taken. And logically, WTF is somebody in Dale, Indiana doing for the IRS anyhow?
