Both members and non-members have been receiving the following text message:
"Honolulu F.C.U ALERT: Your VISA #xxxxxx has been temporarily DEACTIVATED. To reactivate, please call our 24hrs line (808) 626-xxxx."
Please be aware that this is a phishing attempt; callers will be asked to provide their account number and PIN, which will then be used to make fraudulent purchases. Honolulu FCU does not contact its members via text messages for issues with plastic cards and would not ask for personal information; please disregard these messages and contact us immediately if you unwittingly gave out your personal information.
The perpetrators, while posing as employees of Honolulu Federal Credit Union, have also called several individuals in an attempt to obtain personal information such as birthdates and social security numbers. Please note that credit union personnel will not ask for such information from you and you should immediately hang up without divulging information.
