The caller stated that he was collecting for returning war veterans. Before I could say yes or no he hung up and ended the call. When I called back the phone rang numerous times but nobody picked up and there was no recorded message. I suspect that this was someone trying to verify my phone number or address. I am in the phone book unfortunately.

I got one too and let my answering machine pick up.  It's probably for solar cells or home improvements.  Highly likely that the number is spoofed.
