I hate telemarketers, but THESE guys just offer to come pick up junk FOR FREE, and I always have something for them that they take away.  Apparently they sell it at a local store (when I have time, I think I'll check that out), and apparently it helps fund research into MS.   I'm not sure about either of those, but as far as I'm concerned it's a good deal just having someone come buy to pick up stuff I don't want.

I called the number back and a person with an Indian accent answered "Friends of Multiple Sclerosis may I help you?"

Called 2 days in a row and hung up on me both times.  According to charitynavigator.com, this charity has a privacy policy which requires you to tell the charity to remove your name and contact information from mailing lists it sells, trades or shares. Opt-out terms and conditions vary from one charity to the next, but all require the donor to initiate the act.

Just got a call from 801-456-1224, they rang 5 times, then hung up -- It was 8:32 a.m. Well, for most people it may be OK to call @ 8:30 a.m, but for me it is not. I am disabled, and I had just barely gotten to sleep after a rough night of being in pain. Thanks a heap. This number is a telemarketer for the MS Society. OK I called them back and told them off the bat. I want you to take me off your call list. They asked for my last name only, and my phone number, and said, OK we will take you off. HOWEVER, this is getting ridiculous. I have received more calls in the last week or two than I have in the last several months total -- all from telemarketers for charities. I've been on the Do Not Call Registry since its inception, and renewed it again last year. I think this spate of calls is due to someone selling phone number lists. What is worse, because it seems almost everyone, if not everyone who has posted a complaint, is on the NDNCR, which tells me that someone got hold of the NDNCR list, and sold it to charities, because they are exempt from the list's bans. Someone must have thought, gee, how can I make some money? Oh, I know, I will sell these "fresh" or telemarketing-"virgin" ph numbers to everyone who is exempt from the registry list. Charities, surveys/polls, and political organization, as well as any entity with whom you have already established a "relationship" is exempt from the NDNCR's restrictions  So, I expect everyone on the list will be hearing from every charity around. This really stinks and I am very ticked off about it. The only idea I have is to be proactive, and call all the charities, and pre-emptively tell them to take me off their list. Maybe that will put the kaibosh on this ridiculous invasion of my privacy and my peace.

I've received one call from them and ended the phone call nicely and called back after investigating the number.  I asked them to remove me from their call list because I am registered on the DNC list for months and it seems I am also getting more calls now than I did before I registered.  The government sure didn't think this one out because even charities can be a major pain in the rear...they shouldn't be exempt.
