Call a few minutes ago from heavily accented man stating the IRS has attempted to contact me twice regarding tax evasion and something else I could not understand.  Caller asked for my criminal defense attorney's information.  Second call today.  First one came in this morning from different Chicago, IL phone number.  Also heavily accented, this one a woman.  Impossible to understand what name they are using, but they know my name.  That number was 773-786-9511.  IRS is required by law to provide written notification to taxpayers of actions pending.  Been getting a lot of these calls in the last month or two.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

this person has called 3 times already today, i blocked them after telling them they're a scam and don't call. unfortunately, even with a blocked number the phone stills rings once. i hate them. the name on the phone is 'chicago, il' and is claiming to be affiliated with the govt. such harassment.

Got call today from 773-312-4021 and was a heavy East Indian accent wanting my lawyer's name and I was in trouble. I just hung up knowing it was a scam.

I got the exact same message 2x in a row this morning from a male with a heavy accent in a muffled voice.  Received the same message last week, as well.  The call came from Chicago, IL 773-312-4021.
