Called my phone three times this morning and failed each and every time to address me when I answered, or when the call went to vm. Absolutely no message at all was left -- on two occasions. (Why would a legitimate company behave in such a coy manner toward it's supposed clientele?) So when I did finally call this number back, I get an operator who would only reveal who she worked for when I pressed the matter, as no announcement was made as to whom the number belonged to upon answering. One interesting thing I did hear her say was "Anthem want's us out." I thought that was weird. But here is the thing: I have a business relationship with Anthem, I don't with "Amerigroup. Not that I'm aware of. I haven't received any calls where they announced their name, I don't receive invoices from them, I don't receive correspondence from them at all. In fact, I've never heard of them until I looked this number up and found this information on 800notes. I consider myself to be very well informed and I still had never heard of Amerigroup. So the Wikipedia article mentions that Anthem has a stake in Amerigroup. But why do they try to contact Anthem members and sound/act like scammers?!? If I've never heard of, received mail from, or had any prior notice from Anthem that "Amerigroup" might contact me, how am I supposed to know that they aren't scammers?? The CSR I finally ended up speaking with today at this #, Karen, wanted to know my member ID from Anthem, but I ask her "are you Anthem, or are you Amerigroup(?); she refuses to commit one way of the other. She want's me then to verify my name and DOB and I said repeatedly I wasn't going to divulge this until I was assured I was talking to a legitimate Anthem rep. This goes on in a circular argument for a while, as I insist she give me some clue I would know that, indeed, with my ID number they have "me" pulled up. She says she can't tell me anything more due to HIPPA. I said that was not a valid reason to not divulge one clue I would know, so I was confident "I" was actually "in" their system. She says she has to see the next screen after I give here my name and DOB to see anything else. I don't believe any of this, does anyone else believe that? I finally ask: "Does Anthem outsource their Customer Care Service?" She says "No." I say "this call is over" then. If Anthem does not outsource, then why is this "Amerigroup" calling and harassing me, but insisting they need my Anthem ID # to initiate a discussion? I call that outsourcing. Why do they call three times but refuse to address the recipient business like. I call that harassment. Why is a returned call turned into a blind interrogation(?); in other words, refusing to fully disclose what purpose they serve, who they represent, and what possible need they have to engage me on the phone, BEFORE I turn over all my personnel info. They literally refused to give me any rational to negate my suspicions they aren't simply a scam. As I told the rep ( who I could not 100% trust was legit ) the firm needed a system to "handshake" with the caller so each could trust the other. Blind faith doesn't work anymore, unless YOU are the one that doesn't care about getting scammed next!
