Received repeated messages at our office from "Leslie Harris" at this number this week, asking to speak to the "person responsible" about "federal tax issues." When I called back, the outbound machine message did NOT reflect that this was an IRS office, but DID ask for "business owner" to leave message on a certain extension, so I hung up immediately, concluding it was a scam. Later, my naive husband DID return the call, despite my telling him to ignore it, and reported that "Leslie" said she was calling about "delinquent payroll taxes" and claimed that a "lien of $6000" had been placed against our business. All of this is, on the face of it, TOTAL BS.
This is a debt collector acting illegally, because she lied, misrepresented herself totally and never stated that her call was related to an attempt to collect a debt. The company owning this phone number apparently bought a list of companies which the state of Florida claims owe fees lateness in filing state corporate tax returns ($150 penalty). This call was research to discover if company was still operating and other intelligence that could help in collecting.
