They called about an hour ago. The caller ID said "G.W. Financial" with a phone number of #718-509-3005, neither of which I recognized, so I let it go to voicemail. It was a long computer-generated voice stating:
The message made mentioned of an IRS fraud being put against me.
"This is Steve Parker, from the Internal Revenue Services. This call is officially a Final Notice from the IRS. The nature and the purpose of this call is to inform you that we have received legal petition notice concerning a tax fraud against you.
So, before this matter goes to the Federal Claims (or Queens) Court House, or before you get arrested please call, immediately, our department, at 718-509-3005.
Make sure you call us as soon as possible."
G.W. seems to be a real firm, based in Texas. The area code for this call was from New York City, though.
The most important thing to remember is - the IRS does not phone you. They send a letter. Always.
