I as well am getting text messages in the middle of the night about my car for sale in Sacramento, asking to pay by certified check and that he will wait until I have the cash in hand.

These people are huge scammers. they send you the certified checks but they are counterfiet and then you are responsible for the money

if you're advertising on Craigslist - they have a warning posted to only buy/sell locally and pay in cash. That stops most of the scammers.
