well, I got a phone call from the "law Firm" being screwed over before I decided to do a lot of research they did call me about a debt I knew I owed but they were charging me well over the amount I know I originally owed and when I started politely telling them my rights (I wanted the original bill, I needed it in writing etc) they gave me a 50% settlement which was actually what I owed the credit card company to begin with lol. I was put on hold a lot which worried me, but they had no problem at all emailing me a written agreement, but I made sure my request was very clear that I wanted it in writing my account will be closed, no further debt unpaid will be sold to any other firm and to delete trade lines if applicable etc. I did call my bank and spoke with an advisor to make sure this felt legit, I researched the Better Business Bureau and this firm is not associated with them but they did post what they knew about them on the site and so on. I would say, no matter who it is calling to collect debt, if you aren't certain, politely tell them you will have to call them back, if they are real they will comply. Then do some serious research and don't go off of these sites, we are just people sharing experiences, look up the governments collection rights act which is very simple to read, look up the website itself from the company, find out if it has been reported fraudulent etc. I honestly so far have not had a bad experience. I did in fact owe the debt to a credit card company, I just had a hard time tracking down who had my debt and they happened to land it and call me which I am glad they did because its a big relief to pay it off finally. Trust no one and be smart before agreeing. Normally don't pay over the phone, I admit I am doing that but only after contacting my bank and talking to them about it first but I was also clear in my letter how my credit card would be used and when. That way if something does happen and I have to go to court its in writing. GET IT ALL IN WRITING! Good luck
