They stated that I owed a debt from about 12 years ago. After talking with them for a short while, they started the name calling and harrassing.
It was unbelievable how they lowered themselves so quickly during the phone call.

Any collection firm from Buffalo NY is likely total scum. Apparently this is the a--hole of the world since all the worst bogus collectors seem to come from there. If you are in NY the SOL is 6 years so they are 6 years too late. In fact there are only a few states which have SOLs beyond 10 years. Assuming you are not in one of those states (see fairdebtcollection.com for the laws of each state) then send the letter recommended and free at budhibbs.com. Be certain to include a statement that this "alleged debt" (never admit a debt) is beyond the SOL for your state. Ask for proof of the debt and that they prove the SOL for this alleged debt has not run out. You will get no response but if you also tell them to cease all contact with you they will go away and you can end this nightmare. If they dont go away its time to get an atty and sue.
