A man named John Martinez called and said that I was in default on a payday loan and that they were going to take me to court and charge me with bad check writing across state lines and that I would also be charged with fraud. They wanted me to pay 86.15 first payment and the 224.35 for the remainder. At no time did he disclose that this was an attempt to collect a debt and that this was for the purpose of collecting a debt. He also threatened to serve me at my home or business. I called the local police and filed a harassment complaint. I also called the F.T.C.  If by any chance Mr. Martinez or his process server Jordan Walker have an opportunity to read this, I hope you know that you cannot threaten or harass people in the attempt to collect a debt. It is illegal, the police have your number, and I have saved recordings of your numerous voice mails.

These debt telemaggoters occasionally stop by 800notes to post comments. They usually accuse everyone of being in debt and to pay our bills. The rest of them pretend to have received a legitmate call. They follow this by taking about how nice the employees are and that they setup a payment plan.
When it comes right down to it,  debt telemaggoters have been known to make baseless threats. A prime example is just like you explained.
