You could have stopped at the false "warrant" threat, but of course these fraud shops always manage to violate the FDCPA sixteen ways a minute. For example, the one correct response to your notice of being represented was to take the name and contact data of your attorney and then never bother you again.
It's not "your duty" to pay anything on the word of a stranger. It's the collector's duty to send you a specific paper notice and allow that you might want to review and dispute the claim.
