I periodically get phone calls from numbers that often start with 000 or my area code and the rest zeros. They call and when I pick up, they hang up after a few seconds. It happens a few times a day almost every day. My suspicions is that they are collecting data about when people are home and when they're not. Perhaps they want to know if anyone is home for some reason and they're collecting statistics regarding when someone tends to be home. It could be statistical data for marketing purposes or it could be for some other strange reasons. Best thing, don't give them that data? If they can't confront you about it then don't answer the phone?

Folks, register your phone number with the National Do Not Call list; then send the following message to their "Contact GCS" on their web site - www.gcsagents.com and tell them to stop making these calls to your STATE, area, phone number, etc.  I did & haven't been bothered again:

Dear Mr. Alcorn,

There are THOUSANDS of us fed up with your company's annoying calls and we are organizing.  Take my number out of your data base immediately.  We have YOUR information to send to the FCC and other government agencies and to post to all sorts of websites, blogs, etc.
