I had a message left at a old family friends home for me regarding a case number and I needed to call. I have been a ligimate compliant bill collector for 18 yrs. I know my credit and I knew I have no outstanding debt so I just had to call them back mostly for amusement . The women that first answered  asked for case number  I asked her for the company name and where it was located. She told me Sinclair Alvarez and associate out of Michigan then put me on hold where I waited 26 minutes. Then the "litigation mediator " said he was calling about a lawsuit for a visa in the amout of 2017.00 I asked his name he gave me dale smith. I then proceeded to tell him I have no outstanding debt that I was looking at my credit report as we spoke. I advised him I am a bill collector and what they are doing is illegal and I asked for the company's license number at which point he hung up on me. Then today I get a call from a different man stating he is with the " civil process" office and just wanted to make sure I wou be home tomorrow to receive my summons. I couldn't help but laugh I told him sure I will be he waitng . The man was lost for words for a moment. Then I kindly advised him of every law he was breaking and of course he then hung up on me. I have already reported the company and will continue to every time they call . I suggest everyone does . I have made a good living as a bill collector and I have done it by following the law and working with the people in financial hardships. Places like this disgust me it is not how things are done in a ligimate company.

Thank you so much for your post.  I am wondering if you can direct me to the proper agency to report this sort of activity.  I had the same experience and now have found that they are calling associated phone numbers today of family, etc and notifying them that I am involved in a so-called legal process and asking them for information.  I'm sure there are many laws they are breaking and I hate to think of these people taking advantage of others who may not be as suspicious as I am.

I believe this is a scammer who is using a ploy about some "legal action" and calling family members or associated numbers to get information.  I am NOT involved in any legal action, nor do I have any debt collection going on, this is about Identity Theft.  I am contacting the authorities as well as these people have gotten really nasty.  First they call and say something to the effect of  "you are involved in a legal action, please call back with this case number."  Even if you don't answer the call or call the number back, they will then call and tell you they are "from 'Civil Process' and are verifying that you will be home between the hours of 9am and 4pm to receive summons from a processor."  When you begin to question this, they will tell you to call another 800 number to "verify your identity."  The next level is to contact your known associates (who they can find with a simple google search) and tell them you are involved in legal proceedings and ask to verify information about you.    Please don't answer or return a call from (682) 808-4671

This happened to me today, it scares me because they had my entire social except the last 4. Of course I didn't give it to them. I am in the process of cleaning up my credit to build a home and this shook me to the core. I am happy to see its a scam. Thanks.
