The easiest way to get them off your back for at least a little while is to just tell them that you accept the charges. I had a little fun with "Sammy McClure" today who claims he is an Asian-American.
If they refuse to send you something in writing, or if they continue to tell you that you will go to jail for a payday loan(which isn't possible), that alone will show you that they are frauds.
I would be careful though, as more and more real call centers are getting outsourced to these "Asian Americans" with surprisingly Caucasian names. I'm sure sooner or later a legit one will come up, so make sure it's a fraud before you do something you might regret.
Another way to discover that they're a fraud is if their number is spoofed, like 916 395 0000. There is no way a number will have four zeros at the end. Calling with a fake number is illegal, along with claiming to be a Federal Investigator, and calling someone's work after they've been told not to. All of these things are very characteristic of these D-bags.
