Caveat emptor...Latin for let the buyer beware.  Earlier this evening my husband and I received a telephone call from Shebree Gilbert of CTC, congratulating my husband for his entry of winning a vacation to Hawaii.  Apparently, my husband filled out one of those forms at a festival here in Alameda.  Well, Ms. Gilbert proceeded to throw in this thing that we had to attend a 90 minute presentation at the Hilton Garden Inn in Milpitas in order to claim our prize.  The required household income is $55,000 and/or over.  Well, we don't qualify for this presentation because our income is less than $50,000.  Then she called back and told us to go ahead and attend the presentation, but circle that we earn $55,000...ain't gonna do it...that's lying.  Also heads up on the following number:  (813) 655-7551 from Brandon, FL - business is Affinity Marketing Service.

Yeah, this is a scam.  I called and talked to their "manager" but then talked to other people who had been suckered who entered the same contest at a legitimate event.  How they get away with it I don't know but if you see them at Events you attend I think we need to tell people not to enter.

Just like with "Hacked Off" I got a similar call just minutes ago from those CTC scammers only the contest and details are a little different:

"Hello, my name is (Inaudible), at the award department that is responsible for the drawing that was held, and we've received your entry form that you entered with Great American Giveaway. The reason for my call is I have exciting news about your entry.  It is imperative that you do contact me regarding your entry form..." He goes on to say that he has great, great news and to call him back at 855-306-1454x217  He will be in the office Monday - Friday 2pm-....

Of course I didn't enter any contest and he is/they are totally full of it!!!

Don't give those clowns the time of day people, block or ignore them if you know what is good for you.

I forward my land line (which is unlisted, on the "do not call" list and blocked) to my cell# but this phone# still got through. Two years ago when I had a different land line I had filled out a prize form at the Alameda County Fair. This company kept calling me about a free vacation if I would listen to their 90 minute presentation and also told me to lie about my income on their form! Even though I kept screaming at them every time they called they called every day! After a year and a half of no land line I decided to get one through Comcast in case of emergency to dial 911. Either Comcast is failing me or these evil people can override my preferences.

This is a company that told me I filed out a form in the mall and now i'm going to win a prize.

Ya right.
anyway they always call and rarely leave a voicemail.
I have now added a new app to my phone called "YouMail" and it allows you to ditch unwanted callers.

And NO I Don't work for them in any way.
