No, these are criminals and not telemarketers. They're not Microsoft and Microsoft *wouldn't* know your PC's transmitting malware because your PC is *not* sending any info on itself to Microsoft. They are criminals. They'll ask you to launch Event Viewer in your PC to show you all the errors your PC has. It's *normal* for errors to be logged even in a perfectly healthy PC. Something simple like trying to connect to the net and the cable's not attach will generate an error in the log - a perfectly harmless error. They will send you to a website and download software that will allow them to remotely control your PC. Once they're in control, anything can happen. They can install fake antivirus that finds lots of viruses on your PC that you'll have to pay $$$ to remove. They can plant malware that will steal your banking data. Do not do anything they tell you to do. Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG. Buy a whistle or air horn and use it, God will forgive.
