This guy called me from 315-636-6659 claiming I had a criminal case in court for tomorrow if I didn;t pay $936.00. I refused to pay, so he called me from this number stating he was from the NYPD. I filed a complaint through the Attoney general's office.

got a call from a man with a very thick indian accent claiming to be a detective.  Told me i'm in a federal IRS case and to go turn myself in or call Det. Steven Wright at number 585-283-8485.  Did some research on that 585 number and saw this is an ongoing scam.

received this message. This is officer Matthew Jones. I'm calling with the NYPD with the batch number 8947. I called you because we have the received the case and complaint against you from an officer by the name Michael Black. If I came from the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS. So get in touch with at office or on this number which is 202-810-2985. I repeat the number is 202-810-2985

Same message from officer Michael Jones - notwithstanding thick foreign accent - of the "New York state pd" with badge 8957 telling me a complaint has been filed against me on Dec 15 by officer Michael Black of the IRS. I'm to call 202-810-2985. Caller id shows call from 646-610-5000 which is NYPD number but I'm a lawyer: IRS issues are federal and not pursued by local or state police. More importantly, such matters must be in writing and properly served:  due process means no telephone calls. Don't panic: this is America. Delete the message and thank the Founding Fathers.
