Rang once, I picked up and heard an automated message "you have selected an invalid extension". Then the call hung up.

This is a new cell phone scam going around that the cell phone companies don't know how to combat. The company, from oversees, uses a dialer preempted with a local area code to call your cell phone, but hangs-up, hoping you will call the number back. When you call the number back, your phone is charged with a toll, like a collect call.
