That right there should tell you they are not real debt collectors.  Not sending that letter out is the first of their many offenses.  Collectors in Michigan need to be licensed.  That is why I included the link to the form for you to report them there as well.  Did they give you any sort of company name?

Has called me a couple times, once I answered and once I did not. On the first answer, the caller would not respond. When call went to my voicemail, they didn't leave a message. Blocked.

Updating this review, because this number calls me from slightly different numbers.

Calls from a local area code claiming we have an unpaid debt from AT&T. First off, we have not had service with AT&T for over a year. Second, if this business really was calling on behave of a debt collection from AT&T, it would be from an 800 number. It's curious especially since searching this number procured no results pertaining to AT&T or a collection agency. Also called from 616/228/0938, 616/228/0958, and 616/228/0948. Reporting this company to FCC.

Well if they left a message or talked to you, they are now required by law to do this:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

BigA, they've never mailed or contacted me other than calling me and leaving no voicemails. Went to AT&Ts website, and we have no unpaid debt.
