I got the call today on my cell and didn't answer.  Here's the scoop, I work for a publication that hires a telemarketing firm to call "qualified" individuals to either subscribe anew or renew a current subscription.  They want to ask you some qualifying questions like your job title and the types of products you specify or purchase. They use this data to show advertisers who their magazine reaches so they can tout their audience and sell more ads.  They also sell demographic email and direct mail lists.  The subscription is free, they're not trying to get your money, just your info.  I get calls regularly from competitive publications and I know it's annoying as F. Some of the mags are useful, some are trash.

First said she was with Verizon. Then when I said I've looked up her number, and she is not with Verizon she said she was with Electronics Magazine.

I don't answer calls from unrecognized numbers, but they didn't leave a message. They do, however, call at least once a week

Same here, 20/20 magazine or Review of Optometry for me. I just renew online.
