I got a call from 614-634-9467 saying it was the IRS and they had a case number to issue a warrant for my arrest due to "inaccurate reporting of income from 2010 - 2015". They told me I had a $9,975 balance due the IRS and a lien was placed on my home and a warrant issued for my arrest. I instantly knew this to be crap, because I've been audited in the past and it doesn't start with a phone call for your arrest and a hard dollar amount. NOT POSSIBLE!! There is such a thing as the "discovery process" in a real audit and takes years to get to a "seizure" issued and even that is rare if you either lie or avoid them.
The way this fake IRS phone scam works, is catching people off guard and creating fear & panic to get you to provide sensitive identification information and ultimately your credit information. NEVER EVER give anyone that over the phone EVER!! Even the IRS vultures don't work like that.
ITS A SCAM. If you get a call, stay calm, play dumb and ask lots of questions to do a reverse identity investigation and report everything you can gather up to the authorities. In addition, blast it out on all social media to warn peeps. The more we spread the news, the less victims there will be!
