Called left no message

I suspect that this company is testing phone numbers to find out which are real and which are not.  The real numbers are sold to telemarketers and politicians, who then call us incessantly. We receive too many of these calls, which tells me that there's money in having the real numbers.  I'm sure more than one company is gathering this data.
