I am the administrator for a law firm. I got a very annoying call today from a guy who claimed to be a business associate of the owner of our firm and insisted that he needed to speak with him right away. I tried to get more info from him but he was VERY evasive and seemed to stumble over his words. Something smelled fishy.
He wanted me to give him my boss' PERSONAL cell # and of course I said NO. This guy even went as far to say that he was at O'Hare airport right now getting ready to fly into town to meet with my boss! (My boss has been out of town for 10 days). He said he was a member of an organization that my boss is also a member of. I told him that all I could do is take his info down and try to contact my boss. He gave me his name at Chris Kipling and the return phone number (518) 573-9060. After I hung up I was still skeptical so I dialed *69 - turns out the number he called from was not O'Hare airport or even a business cell phone. He called from (608) 824-7200 which I googled and found as belonging to The Princeton Group. I found their site as well as this one, confirming my suspicions that this guy is full of it. It's low enough that these people waste our valuable time with unwanted calls. IT IS EVEN LOWER TO LIE THROUGH YOUR TEETH ABOUT BEING A BUSINESS ASSOCIATE, BEING A MEMBER OF A LEGITIMATE ORGANIZATION, AND LYING ABOUT HAVING A SCHEDULED MEETING WITH THE BOSS!!!
WOW things are getting bad now. Telemarketers have gone from being evasive to flat out LYING about who they are and what connection they have to business owners, all for the sake of making a commission. Watch out people!!
