Here's an original (not quite) scam call.  They lead you in with the promise of being interviewed and featured on a huge nationally televised program hosted by a big name (in this case, Larry King).  They must speak with the President/CEO of the organization within the next few days to determine who will be on the final panel for the program.  

Apparently, our college has had this phone call before with a different celebrity name.  The President talked to the individual the last time for almost an hour - to THEN (and only then) be informed they can produce the program for a $25,000 fee.  I find this to be incredibly misleading.  

I got the same call about the Larry King program on Fox Business News, they acted like they wanted to interview me based on findings from their research team.  However, I no looked up their lame website while typing and then I knew it was a scam of sorts.  Then and there I stopped him and asked if there was a cost because.  He said yes, so I ended the call politely.

I told him I worked in television for 14 years with 2 major networks and no one pays to be a guest on a show.

I just had a call from Dave at the company.  I love when a salesman is trying to sell you something, while claiming to not be a salesman.  I kept trying to get him to answer if this was "pay to play" and he was elusive about it, saying he needed to speak to the president/CEO for those matters.  When I informed him that our president doesn't make those decisions, but our advertising department does, he let me know that he never speaks to marketing, but only speaks to presidents and CEOs.  I asked to be removed from the calling list and he said that there is no calling list, "just a list provided by a research department."  It is frustrating that these companies waste your time with these calls, telling you it is not a pay to play but the more research you do, you see that it is.  And if you say to them, "we get a lot of calls like this from other shows," they claim that they are different.  Same pitch, different company.

A woman named Yvonne called today for our business owner (by name), her voice dripping with disdain for having to leave a message with me, a lowly underling.  She dialed from 561-279-3550.  She said she's the assistant of Joel Walters, and they want to do a show featuring our company.   She would have rather left a voicemail, as she had a "quite lengthy" message to leave for him, but as we don't have a VM system, she simply left their number with me.

Received a phone call today from Rachel Vandrake stating they wanted to interview my boss for Larry King.  I researched the Number and found it to be a scam also.  Just letting everyone out there know they are still at this scam still in 2015.
