Received 3rd call from 540-898-5249 "Mutual Funding"; most recent 2/12/07 at 6:43 p.m.  Caller identifies herself with the national deputy sheriff's association and requests a $35 donation before she will send out information.  Any idea if this is a legit association or if there is an association for Sheriffs and/or Deputy Sheriffs or Police Officers that gives the officers 100 percent of a donation?

National Organization of Deputy Sheriffs is a legit organization, sometimes they just go by N.O.D.S. Mutual Funding INC raises fund for it on their request. They ask for a request of a pledge so that they don't use extra money on postage to people who are not interested.

Montgomery County, Maryland and several counties in Virginia have advised residents to beware of N.O.D.S. solicitors.  They are not affiliated with any local law enforcement agency and they have not registered with appropriate state agencies as required by law.

I got a call from this # today at 6:56p.m. caller ID came up as P.S.S.
