I answered, even though I knew it was a scam-looking CID, because I do volunteer work of an emergent nature, and so many people move but keep their out-of-state cell phone numbers. The moment I picked up (against my better judgement), I heard a delay with flat silence, then the "hissing" of a robocall about to start, and I disconnected before it could begin to play.
I called the number back instead from my unlisted (anonymous) prepaid cell phone, just to find out what I could tell all y'all. A young guy with a very heavy Hindi accent calling himself Daniel (yeah, right) identified his fake group and his fake name (but I couldn't understand anything else he said because of the thick accent). I then deliberately said "aha, now I know who you are, I just wanted to know which scam this was so I could enter it online at a website that lists scammers, and you're just a scammer with the "Mumbai Mafia." I intended to insult him, and it worked. He then hung up.
There was a lot of loud hissing on the line, so who knows what country this call actually originated from, or how many relays it passed through, before it arrived at my phone in America. Don't bother answering.
