I received one of these as well. Mr. Grumpy left a temper tantrum of a voicemail about CL etiquette. It included several uses of the phrase "For God's sake, GROW UP" along with some other choice words. I don't think I need to point out the irony.
What Mr. Grumpy doesn't realize is that he should probably block his caller ID if he's going to make this his hobby. Some people think they are anonymous just because they either use a soft phone or don't accept inbound calls. It's the age of technology, buddy....grow up :-)
Even someone with average tech savvy can deduce that the call originated in the town of Elkhart (little town just northeast of Ankeny with maybe 400 people). Dig a little deeper, and you find that this line is leased through Iowa Telecom. Dig a little deeper and....well, it doesn't take long to pin down a name, street address, and even an email address associated with the account. Something tells me prank calling wouldn't be as fun if someone were to post said personal information in a public forum such as this...I choose not to stoop to that level of intrusion, but others may not be as kind.
I found Mr Grumpy's voicemail amusing personally....but I know not everyone would see the humor in it. The voicemail I received, for example, is a slam-dunk case of 3rd degree harassment if one were to persue it - a misdemenor in Iowa. With a recorded message, there's really not much despute to the matter. Could easily cost him a $1,000 fine, probation, community service, or even time in the county jail depending on his priors. Kind of embarassing for a grown "man", don't ya think?
Anyone receiving future calls from this number should, at the very least, report it to Iowa Telecom at 1-877-902-4692. If their company policy is anything like Qwests, a few accumulated prank call complaints from that number and your service can be terminated due to misuse (clearly outlined in your service agreement).
My advice to you sir, is to take some of your own medicine and please "grow up".
Good day :-)
