Do NOT give your SSN or personal information to this caller. This is not how the Social Security Administration operates. My experiences with SSA in the past is they always let you know everything in written documentation before setting appointments for phone conversations. They wanted me to verify my son's SSN, in fact my son is an adult, and if they want verification of his SSN they would contact him directly. In addition, I called back this number to play with it, because I knew it wasn't real, and all I got was music for about 5 seconds before it hung up on me.
Be smart people, if you call any SSA number, not only do you have to go through a series of electronic options, and usually a wait, before receiving help from an operator, but they don't ask you to verify information that is not yours unless you are doing business for a minor. Usually your local office will contact you for phone or office interviews for information, and after having that contact, they may ask for mailed or faxed information. The thing with government, is they need everything to be documented and approved by YOU, so nothing is simply done or verified "over the phone."
This is a scam number. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOU SOCIAL SECURITY INFORMATION!!
