Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

This call indicated "Worcester, MA". It was a female voice, and she asked for "Steven Beeman". I told her that she had the wrong number. She was polite, and thanked me, but this is surely a debt collection agency.

I keep getting calls from a debt collector. Asking for a name they cannot pronounce. My brother was here from England when he needed an x-ray. He had insurance in the amount of $500,000. Seems the insurance hasn't paid anything. Whoever has sent this to collections has phone numbers and addresses as to where to send the bills. He paid over $1,000 for this insurance. I am not liable for my brother he's an adult. I just tell them there is no one here by that name, and that is true.

Was calling me twice a day for a while, funny how the name will stay the same but the number changes...

You cant answer the phone anymore without some kind of scumbag on the other end.
