We had three calls exactly as described above at 10:36 PM 10:44 PM and 10:46 PM. EST. Having gone to bed, we really thought it was someone trying to make an honest call, but dialing the wrong number, thus tried to be helpful and curteous, letting them know, but no communications going on. Sounded like an older man (same person all times with background voices) speaking in a foreign languages(s) - even a couple different languages. My questions are: (1) Who is this? (2) What is the prpose? (3) How do they get a number? I never give out my home number. Is it a lottery pick? If so, why can't I be so lucky with the lottery? (4) Why can't the phone Co. track it and prosecute them severely with Federal FCC violations? Could be serious jail time and prevent many others from annoying situations that seem to happen. (5) Why is it allowed for people to have blocked numbers or have a number like 505-000-0000 this show up anyway? All calls from any and every phone should be identified with a name and number - no exception. Common decency. All blocked numbers do is allow people to hide activities like this. If it is a real call - they will identify themselves when the caller picks up anyway and it is person to person - still private between the connection (not wire tapped) - so why blocked numbers - one good reason!
I think if people use public communications, their number ID should never be blocked from caller ID, no more than a car registration should be anynonomous. Every car is identified, not to the general public, but to those who have a need to know. If someone is calling me - I have a need to know who it is! It seems like any serious calls you get are identified, and the only ones that are not are those that are up to no good and do not want to be known. Well, if I am going to visit with someone, I would like to know who it is.
Our system is all screwed up to allow such clandestine actions, most annoying, and some that could have a criminal intent. It is not personal privacy and a right to do this when using public communications.
Let's someone in the phone companies and the Government (FCC) do something about it and solve the problem once and for all! That of course if the Government can solve a problem!!!
