This number called my place of work. I need to provide a transcript of this conversation because it was just too bizarre:
Me: Good afternoon, XXX Company.
*two seconds of silence as the call connects, then lots of background boiler room noise*
Telemarketer: Hello!?
Me: Yes, good afternoon, this is XXX Company.
TM: Hi, this is *garbled* with the Warranty Department calling on a recorded line about the warranty on the Audi *random string of numbers*. What's the mileage on the vehicle?
Me: I'm sorry, I think maybe you have the wrong number. Who are you calling for?
TM: Jane Smith, please connect me to her.
Me: Ah, I'm sorry but she no longer works in this department--
TM: What happened?
Me: She is no longer with our company. This isn't the right number to reach her anymore.
TM: What happened?!
Me: I...don't understand what you're asking me. She isn't in our company anymore.
TM: Please transfer me to her.
Me: No, I can't. She isn't in our company anymore.
TM: What happened? What happened?
Me: I don't know how else to say this. She left. She's gone. She's not with our company.
TM: So she just left, huh? People just move on nowadays.
Me: Yes....they do. Can I help you with anything else?
TM: *disconnects*
I can't tell if he a) couldn't hear me, b) didn't understand what I was trying to tell him, or c) was pressing me for more contact information from her. Either way, we get calls like this all the time from random numbers, each trying to claim that they are from a "Warranty Department" and wanting personal information. They use that to scam you into buying phony extended warranties. Just hang up.
