Got a call from this number saying they were a law firm trying to get a hold of my wife saying that she was involved in a theft back in California and bench warrants were issued for her.

Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process.  They will deliver the notification without warning.

Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:

Thank you for the information.  I know it was a scam of some sort and when I call the number back all I get is a message saying this person is on the other line please leave a message.

Don't return these calls. If anything it will only increase the calls you receive.

Called saying they represented a firm called Silverman and Assoc. and my "case" was in regards to an almost 4 year old payday loan I had taken out.  They wanted me to settle with them.  I asked out of  curiosity when the statue of limitations runs out on these things.  He said 4 years.  His name was David.  Seems like a scam.
