Answered the call and it beeped, like an answering machine. Then nothing

I've had this number show up on my caller id and my cell phone a few times. I won't answer it . . I've gotten to a point where if it is a number I don't know I'll leave it alone and if the caller leaves a message and it isn't junk but someone I know or was expecting a call from Then I'll call them back immediately.
So my suggestion to all of you reading my comment. Is just let the machines do the work for you and screen your calls. As I've had expereinces in the past with things causing me troubles when answering them.

I let it ring.  They hung up on the voicemail.  Then, called back as they are either non-existing numbers or usually give a chance to opt out.

This number calls and accuses of a false crime attempting to extort money.

Received notice this number had left a voicemail, but it was just a beep. Called back and it was a survey.
