The ID said city of Springfield city of Springfield has no such number with this title. It's a scammer .

The number DOES belong to city of Springfield. It is an outgoing number for the police dept.

It is not a scammer. It is a legitimate number from the city of Springfield.
Source: I work for the city.

So what do they want? Why do they call?

well then why when you call the # back does the message say its for identification purposes only?  When the lady asked for information on my company and I asked who she was and why she needed the information, she became rude and asked me if the information was private.  My reply to her was no, but that we don't just randomly give out names, she told me I was ridiculous and hung on me.  So if this is a real number and not some sort of scam, I don't know what kind of people the City of Springfield is hiring.
