I just got the call from these same guys too. It was this man with a southern accent. Reminded me of someone from Texas.

I asked him what this was all about and why they kept calling my phone. He started going on about warranty about my car. And I was like "what? I don't need a warranty for my car!" Then he said "I'll put you on the 'do not call list. Have a good evening.'" and hung up on me.

What the heck. This is has been going on for the past few weeks, but I always miss the calls. Me and my bf have both been getting cut off messages of blah blah warranty on our voicemail.

These calls were recently profiled on the news.  Apparently, some people in the US are utilizing the Canadian "Do Not Call" registry for these purposes.  Supposedly, telemarketers are required to cross reference these do not call listings and remove these numbers from their own databases.  However, since nobody has been prosecuted under the newer Canadian laws people are using this regularly updated list to place solicitation calls and scams.  Fun isn't it.

 My wife and I have both noticed an increase in telemarketer calls, both to our home and cell phones, since we put ourselves on the national list.  I am willing to bet that pretty much everyone who is getting these calls, is also on the "do not call" list.

I recently got a call from this number and didn't answer the phone!!

Got a call on my cell phone from 416-000-7793 at 5:25 pm Alberta time.
Did not pick up...Rogers told me that Govt has asked them to release all cell #s as of Jan 09. That could be the reason why we are getting these calls.

wait, but if the government asked them to stop calling our cellphones in Jan, then why haven't they?
